Covered in blood, a man wakes in the trunk of an old car. Still bleeding with a bullet in his stomach, he desperately searches for a safe place. Convinced he is being followed and overcome with paranoia, he stumbles through a maze of alleyways, pistol at the ready. Macabre figures, illustrated upon the dirty walls, begin to taunt him. The side streets becoming strangely familiar. Then, rounding the next corner, he sees the impossible. Nothing could have prepared him for what he’s about to face… Purgatory throws the audience into the ultimate theatre of redemption. Writer and Director Dael Oates, together with lead actor Dwaine Stevenson (Gabriel), create an evocative and visually arresting short film. Combining a potent, existential idea with seamless Digital FX, from Oscar winning FX and Animation studio Animal Logic. This film explores the ideas of accountability, when you are the ONLY one to turn to. |
