STONY BROOK is the story of Brandon Matthews, a shy 13-year-old who lives with his family in Stony Brook, Long Island. At school, Brandon is viciously bullied by Anthony, the son of a local police officer. Brandon finally confronts Anthony with a gun. Moments later, Anthony is dead, and a second boy, Chris, is paralyzed. Fifteen years later, Brandon is released from prison. He moves to Manhattan and finds work. He struggles to relate to the family he left so long ago. And he falls in love with Katy. He is haunted by his past, but tells no one. Instead, he tries hard to build a new life. Meanwhile, Joe, the dead boy’s dad, and Chris, still paralyzed, set out to find Brandon. Both of them are armed, and filled with rage. As they close in on him, Brandon finally finds the courage to confess his crime to Katy. But when he does, she pulls away from him. Alone again, Brandon realizes that, if he is ever to have any chance at happiness, he must return to Stony Brook to face the people he’s hurt - even if it means risking his life.
