A mysterious gold-colored mask drifts down into the ocean depths. Along the way, dark creatures sense its presence. When the mask lands, a nearby Matoran villager, Dekar, finds it and not knowing what it is, picks it up. He heads to a sanctuary to place the mask, which we learn is the coveted Mask of Life, on top of a statue holding a lightstone. Just then, a tentacle wraps around the statue, crumbling it to pieces. Dekar and the lightstone are flung back as Kalmah, a squid-like Barraki warlord emerges. The lightstone lands in the sand as Ehlek the ell Barraki comes out of the shadow, and bites into it to energize himself. Kalmah grabs the mask with his tentacle, but Pridak the shark-like Barraki slices off his appendage, sending the mask drifting back into Dekar’s hands. Ehlek launches an energized squid at Pridak to ward him off. Dekar catches the mask, but is surrounded by the three bestial warlords. He slips and falls into a pipe, and Pridak swims after him, but he’s too large to fit inside. Dekar tumbles out of the pipe onto the ocean floor, where armor pieces lie scattered. As he gets up, Takadox the insect Barraki senses him. Using his hypnotic gaze, he stuns Dekar, who lets go of the mask. However, Mantax the ray-like Barraki emerges out of the sand to attack Takadox. Before he can do so, a squid grasps onto his clawed arm. The squid has been fired by the crab-like Carapar, who comes barging in, shoving Dekar to the side. Dekar snaps out of Takadox’s hypnosis, but tumbles into a chasm, barely managing to hang on to the rock’s edge. The three Barraki begin fighting over the mask. Carapar launches another squid, which grabs the mask out of Takadox’s grasp, however it’s too heavy and soon the little squid drops it as well. Dekar watches as the mask disappears in the deeper waters, and is then pulled under by a tentacle himself. |
