When Mark was 14, he suffered a massive stroke which left him unable to walk, speak properly or feed himself. While in hospital, he was introduced to MediCinema, a charity who put on movies for patients. Mark realised just how important films were in helping people recover from illness and, once he recovered from his stroke, he started studying part-time animation at Glasgow School of Art. At 17, he founded his own company Mark Flood Animations Ltd, who are based in Glasgow city centre. They now employ former Disney, DreamWorks, Warner Brothers and Sullivan Bluth Studios animators from around the world. Mark’s cartoons The Freak Next Door and Two Women, One Heart have been screened in festivals in the USA, England and in Scotland, where he won a Best Animated Film award at the Young Talent on Screen Film Festival, in the Glasgow Film Theatre. |
