What a delightful watch. Bogart, Ray and Ustinov are terrific in their roles and the chemistry between them on screen is wonderful, as if their roles were specifically written with the three of them in mind. The plot is pretty simple there is not a lot of surprises, nonetheless it works well and provides a good story.
One of the last movies made by Bogey. This highlighted his acting ability to yet again go beyond his serious roles and still use his popular ‘tough guy’ demeanor. This is also the first movie where I saw Aldo Ray. Ustinov is his usual self and all are combined to give a delightful and humorous treat. Even Leo G Caroll gives a great performance at odds with his usual roles, Rathbone is the quintessential greedy jerk who earns his just rewards. But the hero of this flic is unseen, yet described to a ‘T’. All in all, a movie that was surprisingly funny and enjoyable and a great addition to my library.
A brilliant film that I watched when I was very young. What an impression it left! 5/5!
blimey 3 x 5* , be dum not to add it to my list really, thanks
