A Voice in the Silence tells of the story of Hector and Amalia Figueroa, deaf immigrants from Mexico, who are seeking asylum in the United States. The Figueroa’s and a number of other deaf immigrants seek asylum protection in the United States on the grounds of persecution endured by them in their home countries as a result of their disability. This documentary-short explores the backstory of the Figueroa, detailing their lives and struggles, while also shedding light on issues of immigration and political asylum. A Voice in the Silence features interviews with Hector and Amalia Figueroa and their attorney, Hadley Bajramovic. This film was shot and edited by Je’Don Carter, Joshua Clark, David Haroun, Liang Zhou, and Sarinah Simmons. |
