Brooke and Grant, a young married couple, and their daughter Riley live in a small town on the border of Ohio and Kentucky. Grant, a sheriff’s deputy, suddenly decides to list their home for sale and quickly move his family 100 miles further South. During the rush of packing, Brooke finds a bloodied jewelry box tucked away deep inside storage. Grant insists that it’s simply a piece of evidence from a case his coworker Joe asked him to look into before he moved. Doubtful, Brooke decides to investigate the item when her husband is asleep, and instead of finding closure in the basement where he stuffed the item, she meets a ghastly figure which quickly disappears at Grant’s arrival. The next morning, the rumble of a drill wakes up Brooke, as Grant bolts shut the basement door. He leaves without warning, and Brooke gives chase, but still finds no answers. Later, during a going-away party, Brooke’s sister Kate spikes her drink with a mysterious pill that causes Brooke to blackout on the porch during a conversation that is seemingly leading to pertinent information. During her stupor, Brooke has visions of creeks, the ghastly figure in the basement, and satanic symbols. Upon waking, she finds herself in bed, still in her previous night’s outfit. Grant insists she drank too much and that none of her visions were true. Grant quickly leaves explaining the he has paperwork to finish at the station, and Brooke takes this opportunity to again search for the box. Instead of the box, which is nowhere in sight, she finds loads of newspaper clippings and police reports relating to an unsolved satanic murder case that her husband seemingly worked on. She calls Grant’s coworker Joe, and interrogates him when he arrives. He resists answering anything, claiming that he shouldn’t be talking to her about it. He steps away to answer his radio, and Grant appears through the doorway. Brooke quickly snatches Joe’s gun from his belt hanging on her coat rack, training the barrel on both Joe and Grant. Grant finally reveals to her the reason for their moving and the unsolved case. |
