Nark is a contemporary and disturbing reworking of the myth of Narcissus for the digital age. A 19-year-old runaway lives alone in a squatted warehouse in East London, overlooking the Olympic stadium. He spends all day boxing, taking selfies, videoing himself masturbating, snorting the drug Ketamine and finding girls online who are happy to come round and have non committal sex. Consequently his grip on his own sanity is at best tenuous and the film follows a day in his life when reality and fantasy finally meld with alarming results. Shot in black and white, with no dialogue, it was filmed over 3 days in an abandoned warehouse and stars 4 young actors all making their debut performances. |
