I love Joanne Froggatt so much, but why does she always have to play the victim? Yes, she always wins in the end, but why can’t she be a strong woman, like a lawyer or doctor or a superhero? This typecasting is getting old for such an amazing actress.
I think she gets cast thus partly bc she’s physically delicate and bc her voice is high and thin — it’s very difficult to imagine her as someone having authority in a workplace, for ex. — but mostly bc the the bulk of the roles for women are, unfortunately, as victims of murder, rape, physical violence, domestic violence, and so on. Women still aren’t allowed to be seen as complex, flawed characters living their lives with independence and vigor.
