I have to admit that I haven’t seen many Jackie Chan flicks, even the ones made in Hollywood. But having watched this one (which is considered by many to be one of the best action movies of all time) I think I’ll be checking out more of his work.
The action is pretty much non-stop, with a few breaks for humor. It’s not a deep movie, but that’s not what anyone should expect from a martial arts flick about cops catching bad guys. It plays with the formula enough to be original and features some spectacular stunt work by all the performers and, of course, Chan himself. There’s a famous stunt near the end where Chan suffered second-degree burns, compressed his spine and dislocated his pelvis. At the end of the stunt, you can see he gets up and starts going again before the camera cuts away. What a beast.
Unfortunately, at the time of this posting, the links are either in Cantonese with no subtitles (mixdrop and dood.watch), or dubbed in English (Streamtape). I prefer subtitles with the original audio, since dubbing tends to detract/distract from the quality of the acting by the original performers. The non-dubbed versions are pretty low-resolution (272p is like old-school TV quality). However, if you don’t mind the English dubbing, the Streamtape version has reasonable fidelity.
