Foyle’s War remains a high water mark when it comes to solid British Historical Crime TV, I cannot think of another in it’s league (except maybe Inspector Morse and Endeavour) where the writing and the character development are so spot on and engaging. If you listen closely in some of the episodes you can get a really good history lesson on what it was like to live in Great Britain during WW2, the episodes set during the blitz are especially good. It is a unique series where the writers actually developed the main character as WW2 progresses and eventually fades into the Cold War and in doing so creates a hybrid spy/crime series in the process.A++
