First, I like Topher Grace (he has potential to be a great actor but picks the wrong roles), but he was not the right choice for this movie. He has too much of a comedic face to convey fear or dread. In a comedy/horror, sure. In this movie, his funny faces and demeanor took me out of the story. AND, his character was too wimpy for me. Not good. This move was excruciatingly slow and frankly, boring. Jump scare do not work with me, because they are so predictable and a cheap filler for a lack of imagination. But if a director uses them, he better have something substantial to back it up with. Give me something I didn’t see coming. Here, it’s ONE guy in a big house, and nothing happens. The character of Lynn was absolutely useless, very nosy (she would’ve been out on her ass if it would’ve been me), and irritating. And the whole “is it an hallucination or not” card is unoriginal and overdone. In all, it lack cohesion and had too may plotholes. And the ending was lame, dull. The house looked nice though. 2/5.
