This is somewhere in the vein of I Am Mother with Rose Byrne or Her. Like those, this is a disembodied bot like Hal in 2001 Space Odyessy - and takes some of Hal with it. However, the end is not creative & a rather lazy quick & dirty way for the writers to display they lack imagination.
There are embodied bots such as S1m0ne with Paccino, Eva with Claudis Vega, Wifelike with Elena Kampouris, Uncanny with Lucy Griffiths, Marjorie Prime, the very popular Freeguy, Deus Ex Machina with Vikander or The Machine with Caity Lotz, Colossus The Forbin Project made the same time as 2001 is a disembodied bot, etc.
I’ve piddled programming bots for a long time, so if you also dig things that go into the Turing area, then this fits. Other titles to look for are Blank, Amelia, The Trouble With Being Born, I’m Your Man, Infinity Chamber, Simulant, Vanishing Waves, Zoe, Zone, maybe Ruby Sparks with Zoe Kazan & Operator with Mae Whitman. Don’t forget Asimov’s Bicentennial Man with Robin Williams. There’s also Robot & Frank, Robotropolis, Spielberg & Kubrik’s A.I., Automata, and PK Dick’s Bladerunner. There’s plenty more of this type of material, but that’s a good chunk to fill up an AI type of film binge. Start with Lang’s Metropolis.
