It’s a representative republic, a.k.a a representative democracy. The “they want, they take,” you describe is actually communism, socialism, or fascism depending on the power setup. I agree that pure democracies fail, but I get tired of the “Everyone is equal in a democracy,” attitude. That’s crap. Democracies aren’t about equality. Communism and Socialism are about equality. Representative republics are about majority rules. Minorities will never have equality in a pure representative republic. That’s not fair, but that’s life. There is no government in the world that is fair.
Ben Franklin was once asked after signing the Constitution what we had, and he replied, ‘A Republic,if you can keep it’. I agree, the whole everyone is equal in a Democracy attitude is total bullshit, and comes form ignorance.
Communism and Socialism are far from about Equality. On the surface, it looks great, but it never works, has never works, and doubtful it can ever work. Every time it’s been tried, there are a few elites on the top of the food chain in power that wind up with everything, and everybody else winds up with nothing, and a lot of people wind up dying.
Right now Venezuela is a good example of that. They are an oil rich country that were going great, an excellent example to South America of how to to everything right until the wrong people got into power, and now look at the place. All went to hell in a very short period of time. That’s the effects of Socialism.
Representative Republic I suppose I a good way to put it, but what I was trying to describe is not Socialism or Communism, (well, the Democracy, maybe, to a point, they do actually kinda suck in a lot of ways), but laws that protect people through representation via properly elected officials.
Now, here’s where we go (and went) very wrong. And where Franklin tried to warn us I believe…These elected officials stayed in office far too long and became corrupt because the voters became apathetic, many stopped even bothering to vote, many even stopped caring about their vote, or even paying attention to politics in general, not bothering to notice what was going on.
This allowed corruption to fester and grow in the government, with fewer and fewer decent people to come against it. You can start off with a Representative Republic, a good one, but if you don’t water the plant, and give it direct sunlight so to speak, it will soon wither and die, as is what has happened. Any good government, starting off good, if the people don’t continue to pay attention to it, and lose interest, will sooner or later come to find that their government has been taken over by bad people with evil intent, and by the time they do manage to open their eyes, it may well be too damn late to do anything about it.
