Big Band leader Kay Kyser, John Barrymore in his last appearance & popular singer Ginny Simms all play exaggerated versions of themselves. Tarzan Johnny Weismuller & Gary Cooper’s ex, Mexican Spitfire Lupe Velez also plays a character that’s similar to her real self. Remember Gary? The guy that drove Lupe to suicide? Lupe - whose death was scandalized by Warhol? That Lupe, the spoiled daughter of the wealthy Mexican general.
Aside from her wild life & death, she was a very beautiful, popular & funny comic actor with a very short fuse that always kept her on the front pages. Like when she shot at Tarzan. For real. And stabbed Cooper. The one & only Lupe Velez. RIP.
