A doctor who pioneered emergency medical services for rural areas in Aomori Prefecture, at the northern tip of Japan's main island. This emergency physician's name is Akihide Kon (60). He's been on the job for 30 years, during which time he has established new systems for improving care in the countryside. Dr. Kon knows that every second counts, and he spends every one of those seconds fighting for his patients.
