March 11, 2011. Eastern Japan was hit by a massive earthquake. The gigantic tsunami caused by this earthquake later triggered a power outage at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant run by Tokyo Electric Power Company, which led to 3 simultaneous meltdowns.
