The Little Shamus overhears a threat to kill someone at the hotel but is unable to interest Arnie or any of his colleagues. They're all more interested in a couple of "scam artists" who have been stealing from the rooms of successful gamblers. The thieves do it the hard way. They wait until their victims take to the beach, creep up and steal room keys, make copies of them in a converted, ice-cream barrow, and then toddle over the boardwalk to do their dastardly deeds in the hotel.Meanwhile Max, who is searching for his would-be killer, merely lifts the keys from the chambermaid's trolley when he wants to search a room. When he finds a case that contains a guitar and not the rifle expected, he drops the instrument back. (Brian Courtis) |
