"Jimmy Carter: A Full Life - A Special Edition of 20/20" reflects on the extraordinary life of the 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter (1924-2024). On the evening of his death at 100 years old, the special reports on his unlikely rise to the presidency as well as his legacy of peacemaking and its impact long after his time in office. "20/20" has gone back into the ABC News archives to feature extensive footage from President Carter's early life and interviews with former "20/20" anchor Barbara Walters who interviewed President Carter and his wife, First Lady Rosalynn Carter, in the White House. Additional archival interviews include former ABC News anchor Sam Donaldson who covered President Carter's presidential campaign and "Good Morning America" anchor George Stephanopoulos' many interviews with the Carters conducted over the years. The one-hour special traces President Carter's roots back to his humble beginnings selling boiled peanuts on the main street of his small hometown of Plains, Georgia; and follows his career in the Navy; his rise to governor of Georgia; and, eventually, to the highest office in the country, the presidency. Tonight's special edition of "20/20" also chronicles the amazing love story between President Carter and his hometown sweetheart, Rosalynn Carter, and their partnership that spanned more than seven decades. Their legacy, the Carter Center, has been the vehicle for extraordinary philanthropy, helping eradicate diseases, and working for peace all over the world.
