The Balkan Peninsula, between Bansko and Razlog, on the territory of the Ottoman Empire. The American missionary, Miss Ellen Stone, and the Bulgarian girl, Katerina Tsilka, are kidnapped by bandits. The ransom is enormous - 25,000 Turkish lira. Who will pay, and who is responsible for this incident? Bulgarian, Turkish and American diplomats search for a resolution to this difficult case.
