Upper Silesia region. The euphoria that at first has accompanied the transformation of political system in Poland, turns into deep disappointment. Unemployment raises up to 20 proc. and in some parts of Silesia even to 40 proc. The mines and steelworks are being closed. The people feel more and more embittered, and betrayed. One of them is Irena Michalska, who has been working in one of the Silesian mines for 28 years. |
