In 1974 a group of priests in Barcelona organised two days of illicit concerts of the Chilean protest folk group, Quilapayún, under the noses of Franco’s dictatorship. Vivianne Candia, recently exiled from Chile and just 19 years old, was among thousands who attended and sang the band’s anthem, ‘El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido’. She sang remembering those in her country surviving daily life following the recent military coup by Augusto Pinochet. Almost forty years later, this documentary reunites the organisers of the concerts with Vivianne to remember an act of solidarity that brought together two oppressed peoples and united generations. |
