Details:

“Courage in the Face of Hate” is the first Canadian documentary to focus on the human impact of hate crimes, violence and bullying against lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans Canadians. Despite Canada being one of the first countries in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, LGBT people still face many hurdles in the march towards full equality. This documentary shows the perspectives of LGBT people from across the country and their experiences in dealing with homophobia, biphobia and transphobia at school, at work, in their families and in their communities. These powerful, often heart wrenching stories are further enhanced with statistics and vignettes illustrating the systemic nature of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. The stories make it clear that there is still a lot of work left to do to make Canada and the world a safer place for LGBT people. The film ends with a call to action for teachers, educators and the public in general to speak up against bullying and hate crimes in their communities.
