Details:

Passages to Freedom is an historic reenactment of abolitionists and the Underground Railroad in Southeastern Ohio, from Marietta, through Deavertown, Putnam, and New Concord. The film brings to life the prominent figures in Washington and Muskingum counties. Step back in time to 1852 during the stressful period of the fugitive slave law, prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. Visit with Frederick Douglass delivering his historic Fourth of July speech in the Presbyterian Church in Putnam. Experience the dangers Underground Railroad workers faced to free black citizens and meet the black and white railroad conductors who risked everything to help them. Incidents are based on well-authenticated accounts in the writings of Seibert, Thomas Gray and Robert West Speer.
