The Pasadena Jazz Institute (run by Paul Lines) was a major force in the Los Angeles area for almost a decade until calling it quits in 2010. Paul Lines highlights his experiences/frustrations running a non-profit in this documentary that questions the priorities of the city of Pasadena. Since the mid 90’s, the music scene in Pasadena has dwindled leaving young artists with a lack of outlets to perform. This has been manifested in the closure of venues like the Rialto, The Raymond Theater, and the poor management of the Pasadena Playhouse and Civic Auditorium. Paul Lines believes that these venues should be magnets of activity 365 days a year and bring much needed revenue into the city. The only question is, why isn’t the city supporting the arts? |
