Ten year old Farzin and his little sister Gita try to make sense of their mother’s passing and their new home in Canada shortly after the Iranian Revolution in the early 1980’s. For the children, the revolution itself, how and why their mother passed away, and their families religious beliefs or lack thereof are never fully brought to light. These issues belong to the “real world” of grownups, and exist as a subtle backdrop to the inner life of the children- one they must struggle to comprehend and make sense of, all on their own. Upon discovering snow for the fist time, Farzin and Gita use their imagination to create what unfortunately, cannot be true. In doing so, they uncover the harsh reality between truth and imagination and with this loss of innocence, begin their journey out of childhood. Winter is the second in a series of short films titled “Little Whispers”, examining the unique ability children have to use imagination in bearing harsh realities. |
