Sixteen young scholars from India and Bangladesh (former East Pakistan) take part in the project “Inherited Memories” initiated by Goethe Institute, Kolkata and Dhaka in order to record the recollections of the third generation of the Partition survivors. At the same time, two granddaughters from Bangladesh and India embark on a journey to find their lost home that their grandparents had left during the holocaust of Partition. Through these academic and emotional journeys, the film relives the memories of Partition and tries to understand how multiple generations of Partition survivors perceive the complexities of identity, nationality and “home” in the truest sense.
