Our hero drives from his suburban home to a corporation in the city where the owner often provides lucrative work assignments. He encounters a new receptionist who reacts to him negatively, hiding her purse when he enters the office. His reaction to the presumed slight has the reception crying, which provokes the security guard to knock our hero unconscious. That evening, he goes to pick up Chinese carryout. A stranger asks to borrow his jack to repair a flat tire. It later appears that this stranger is a thief. Later, he flies out of town to interview with Ms. Grier. He ate onion soup and garlic bread before the flight, but has mouthwash and toothpaste in his briefcase. Unfortunately, the security woman refuses to allow him to use the public restroom. He goes upstairs to get the key for the upper restroom. Ms. Grier takes his briefcase away, “No need to lug that thing down the hall and back.” He desperately begs the security woman for a stick of gum or a mint. She tells him, “$100 for a stick of gum… $50 for a breath mint.” Unwilling to get robbed, he goes back up for the meeting where Ms. Grier gets one whiff of his breath and vomits. Back at home, he tries to relax at the shopping mall… but is bedeviled by the constant presence of police and security following him. He goes home to watch television… and finally goes out on a date with a woman who identifies as “trans-racial.” |
