“Lilia” is a story about a man’s struggle to keep his family together, after losing his job. He has a 5-year-old daughter named Lilia, and he’s working to make her happy and keep his wife in school. But they have gone into massive debt trying to pay a mortgage on a home they can’t afford, and, like many families, they are living paycheck to paycheck. Then one day the rug gets swept from beneath their feet and they find themselves fighting for all they’ve worked for. They make a decision that can save their belongings and daughter’s happiness, but risk their future as a family. The story’s theme is about the desperate measures people take, and how the very things we work so hard to accumulate can tear us apart. |
