On The Shore depicts one weekend in the life of a family, gathered together when the spirit of the deceased father returns home. He is greeted by his wife and daughter, but not by his five year old son, James. Through a series of magical moments, a grieving son gradually learns to make peace with the loss of his father. John has written and directed several short films with successful screenings at film festivals. Most notably his film Youth & Tradition screened at the 2012 Montreal World Film Festival where he received the award for Best New Canadian Student Director. His films focus on themes of time and memory, which often investigate the quiet nuances of everyday life and involve moments crafted toward magical realism. |
