TZIRK is an intimate portrait of the circus child Alina. Alina is 8 years old and works with her parents, Natasha and Sergei, in a small travelling circus. They live in a small caravan, whom they share with their monkeys, rats and snakes that they use in their circus act. Natasha and Sergei could not leave Alina at home and had no choice but bring her up in the circus. She is the only child there. Alina works like her parents in every performance, seven performances a week. She announce the artists of the circus together with her mother and she is preparing for an act with three pytons. As a child you accept reality for what it is and Alina is trying hard to fulfil her parents wishes. The main question seems to be if it is a good idea to raise a new generation of circus artists, in a country where everything changes so quickly and the travelling circuses seem to disappear like snow in the sun? Her parents believe it is. They are raising her this way because they believe it is the best they can do for their daughter, just like any parents would. |
