Solar Hero 2 follows the only Canadian entry in the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2011 Solar Decathlon - a competition where 20 student teams from around the world design and build solar powered homes that are displayed in Washington, D.C. The University of Calgary’s student team partnered with Treaty 7 First Nations to build a home that respects Native traditions while employing twenty-first century technology. As such, TRTL (Technological Residence, Traditional Living) is a celebration of Canadian innovation and cultural diversity. In partnership with the Native communities of Treaty 7, this film draws on the respect, equity and inclusion of Canada’s Solar Decathlon 2011 project to raise awareness of the Aboriginal housing crisis, and to explore holistic solutions to it. |
