The Kunene river forms the natural border between Angola and Namibia. At the same time it is the place where the semi-nomadic Himba people live. On the river banks they grow their crops, let their cattle graze and bury the deceased. The leaders of Angola and Namibia decided to build a dam in the Kunene to provide electricity for the area. Himba chief Hyndere and his people are concerned about the consequences. They fear the dam will harm their traditions and that it will be a threat for the existence of the Himba tribe. |
