More than a short film about love and loss, ‘Little Problems’ uses a thrilling plot and a diverse ensemble as a vessel for a subtle homage. During the late 1950s into the 1960s a Golden Age of cinema occurred in Singapore, largely in part to the Cathay-Keris Production studio and the Malay Film Production studio. A heavy American influence shifted focus towards more realism in the mise-en-scene. ‘Little Problems’ portrays the best of both worlds from unspoken understanding, deep compiled emotions, and traditional beliefs to realistic depiction, rash decisions, and modern attitudes. |
