The reason this is so good and ‘different’ is that it’s made by Romans. They’re using Italian actors speaking ancient Latin and paying attention to rituals and Gods that aren’t mainstream to us. And you can smell authenticity through the screen. :-)
That said, Rome was founded in 573 b.c. and the history is totally murky. The archeologically facts presented, like clothing and housing, are solid, but the story details are a fictionalized recounting. An analogy would be William Wallace, aka Braveheart, being 90% speculation. No one wrote anything down.
Highly recommended, if you don’t mind the Latin and subtitles.
